This puzzle was patented by F.A. Schossow in 1900. The patent number is 646463 and it is available at the US Patent and Trademark Office (www.uspto.gov). Schossow originally used the four suits from a deck of cards as his markers on the cubes. Spoiler…the solution is contained in the patent.
